Founded “VegeProject Japan(NPO)” when she was a student. From then, she introduced a veg-menu to the student cafeteria of Kyoto University.
She is currently working with universities, companies, restaurants and municipalities to expand vegan and vegetarian options.
Also active as teacher/advertiser of vegetarian vegans. Interviews with well-known vegetarians Paul McCartney and Colin Campbell.

A first vegan convenience store & family restaurant in Japan!

VEGAN STORE is a vegan convenience store and family restaurant near Kappabashi street and it is a 2-minute walk from Exit A2 of Asakusa Station on the Tsukuba Express. It opened in December 2019.

The stylish curtain with the words “VEGAN STORE” is a landmark at shopfront.
The first floor is a convenience store that sells vegan products, and the second floor is a vegan family restaurant. The green-based interior is cozy so that makes you stay longer.

At the family restaurant on the 2nd floor, you can dine in a calm atmosphere, so it will be a perfect place when you want to relax by yourself or when you want to talk with friends and family.

“I want to make Japan a country where vegans can live comfortably. In order to realize that, I want people who are not normally vegan to feel that vegan food is delicious!”
Based on that passion of the owner, the store has a lineup of items that are familiar to many people, such as ginger-grilled rice bowls and fried chicken rice bowls, so that even non-vegan people can enjoy the delicious food. .
They have lots of flavors and you will be satisfied with the volume.

When the owner, Mr. Suzuki used to work at a long term care facility to prepare meals, he was able to see how much these meals had changed their bodies and made them get better.

Taking advantage of the practical nutritional knowledge acquired in that work, the recipes provided by VEGAN STORE are devised with a focus not only on taste but also on nutritional value.

In addition to the ginger-grilled rice bowl and fried chicken rice bowl that I introduced above, they also have a menu that falls into the category of fast food, such as hamburgers, french fries, and Frankfurt.
Beyond the vegan framework, there are plenty of dishes that many people can enjoy together.

By the way, if you order the “okonomi plate,” you can freely serve and eat the handmade side dishes lined up at the convenience store on the first floor.
The daily side dish menu is introduced on Instagram every morning.

Due to its location in Asakusa, there are many foreign visitors to Japan (about 1/4 of all customers are foreigners before COVID-19,) and there are also Japanese dishes such as seafood bowls and sushi so that even vegans can enjoy Japanese food.

VEGAN STORE offers quality vegan food that can be enjoyed by those who want to eat Japanese food in Japan but feel uneasy about trying something new.

In addition to menus with no animal products, there are also five-legged, gluten-free, and alcohol-free menus.

The owner traveled to about 10 countries, including Italy, France, China, Mexico and Turkey, to understand food culture better.
Through this travel, he also felt the diversity of foods by choosing what he eats for his religion, thought, and health.

From the owner’s experience, they are offering a menu that takes into consideration the variety of foods, with the hope that many people could enjoy their meals with no worries.

At the convenience store on the 1st floor, you can find a variety of vegan products selected by the owner. They have a rich selection of organic vegetables, seasonings, beverages, pre-packaged food, sweets, and cosmetics.

If you are having a hard time finding vegan food or cosmetics, you should be able to shop here for sure.

There are sections of familier items such as roasted sweet potato, oden, and hot snack (“hot snack” is in the showcase where fried foods are stored) which are all vegan in the store.

You can also buy handmade side dishes at the convenience store on the 1st floor, and I recommend that you bring a take-out container because it is eco-friendly and does not cost a container fee.
