Enjoy vegetable-based dishes and earthenware-cooked rice in a cozy space filled with warm wooden furniture and beautiful pottery.
It’s a 6-minute walk from Hikifune Station on the Tobu Skytree Line and a 15-minute walk from Oshiage Station. Looking up at the Skytree, you’ll see the arcade of “Hato no Machi Street.” Walking down the street, you’ll see a sign for “Fureai Kobo Pottery Class.” Next to it is Dining Sweet Rose.

A soft, green storefront and a cute sign.

A lovely, wooden interior.
Entering the store, you’ll find warm wooden furniture and beautiful ceramic objects. The studio next door is run by Akira Takahashi, a ceramic artist and husband of Dining Sweet Rose owner Kimiko Takahashi. All of the tableware used in the store is made by Akira in his studio. In addition to the tableware, there are other beautiful ceramic items on display, including table accessories, lampshades, and seasonal ornaments on the display shelves. These are all Akira’s creations. Some are by his students. The objects on the display shelves change monthly to reflect the season. We visited in April, and Akira’s ceramic helmets were on display to celebrate Children’s Day. I look forward to visiting every month.

Works by Akira Takahashi, the owner and ceramicist
The restaurant is run by owner Kimiko Takahashi alone, and reservations are required. Please make your reservation in advance by phone. Please inquire about allergies, vegetarianism, veganism, and halal options. Lunch is an omakase lunch course (seasonal vegetable dish, miso soup, earthenware pot rice, dessert, and coffee). Dinner is limited to two courses: 4,000 yen and 5,000 yen. Alcohol is served at both lunch and dinner. The dishes are primarily meatless and made with seasonal vegetables. While the restaurant is similar to shojin ryori (vegetarian cuisine), it does sometimes use eggs, dashi stock made with kelp, bonito flakes, and small amounts of bacon and small sardines. Please inquire before making a reservation.
A hearty lunch centered around vegetables
Let’s start with lunch. The chef’s choice lunch includes one main dish, three vegetable-based side dishes, pickles, miso soup, one cup of earthenware rice, coffee, and a mini dessert.

Chef’s Choice Lunch

Vegetable-based side dish, main dish, pickles, miso soup, and earthenware rice
The main dish on the day we visited was fried wheel-shaped gluten. The contrast between the crispy batter and the texture of the wheel-shaped gluten enhances the flavor, making it light and not overpowering despite being fried. The homemade dressing served with the accompanying cabbage also brings out the rich flavor of the vegetables. The side dishes, featuring seasonal vegetables, are delicious enough to keep you coming back for more. The menu changes depending on the season and availability, so you’ll want to enjoy the daily specials and return again and again. The owner, Kimiko Takahashi, said, “Everything is simple,” but each carefully crafted dish is carefully balanced. The food and the interior ornaments in the restaurant allow you to feel the seasons and spend an elegant time. The dishes on which the food is served are all beautifully made by Akira.
The rice cooked in the earthenware pot made by the owner is an amazing taste
As mentioned above, most of the ceramic tableware and accessories used in the restaurant are works by owner Kimiko Takahashi’s husband, ceramicist Akira Takahashi. Among these, the rice cooked in this earthenware pot is also a specialty of the restaurant.

Freshly Cooked Earthenware Pot Rice
The grains of rice are so distinct, it’s easy to overeat. Each person is served one cup of rice. Be sure to savor the aroma and flavor of freshly cooked rice. Apparently, this earthenware pot is also available for purchase. Once you taste this rice, you’ll want one. In addition to cooking rice, it can also be used to steam vegetables and make stews and other simmered dishes. Because each pot is handmade, reservations are currently being taken, but please note that it may take some time for delivery. If you’re interested, please ask. Freshly brewed coffee and a mini dessert are included after the meal.

On this day, we had the “amazake pudding,” featuring the soft sweetness of amazake and the aroma of ginger. The satisfying food in the cozy restaurant soothed both body and mind.
Enjoy the warm atmosphere, carefully selected tableware, delicious seasonal vegetables, and rice cooked in a clay pot.
