Entering the shop, you’ll find a stylish, modern Japanese space, and the gentle aroma of roasted sweet potatoes wafting from the large tsubo-yakimo pots lined up in the back.
Located in Narihira, Sumida Ward, Tokyo, tsubo-yakimo specializes in tsubo-yakimo (baked sweet potatoes). Their signature dish is tsubo-yakimo (baked sweet potatoes), primarily made with “Beni Haruka” sweet potatoes. This tsubo-yaki method maximizes the sweet potato’s potential. They also pay particular attention to the sweet potatoes themselves, purchasing them directly from farmers, varying the variety and origin of each season.
The shop is run by a brother and sister. Owner Dohi suffered from severe food allergies as a child, which prevented him from eating meat, eggs, rice, buckwheat, tuna, dairy products, and sugar. One of his favorite foods was sweet potato.

He opened a specialty store for roasted sweet potatoes in a pot with the desire to share with people with food allergies like his own as a child, as well as those who want to avoid sugar for diet or health reasons but still want to enjoy sweet treats, that there is such delicious food out there!

“We only serve roasted sweet potatoes.
We don’t add any seasonings; we simply purchase and roast the potatoes. Therefore, the quality of the potatoes themselves is extremely important.

Our roasted sweet potatoes are healthy and delicious, something I can wholeheartedly recommend to my past self and my current family.”

Owner Dohi shared his thoughts.

The name “Oimo” (Sweet Potato) was chosen as a sign of respect for the carefully selected sweet potatoes.

Their baking method is also incredibly detailed. They use embers and the reflected heat of the pot to slowly roast the sweet potatoes in a special pot made specifically for this purpose.
It takes an hour just to heat the pot, and then they slowly cook the sweet potatoes over low heat for two hours. This slow, low heat converts the starch into maltose, resulting in a sweet and delicious baked sweet potato.
Order your baked sweet potato at the store and it will be handed to you wrapped in its skin.
Baked sweet potatoes are available in small and medium sizes, and depending on the season, you can even try two varieties: “Beni Haruka” and “Silk Sweet.”

View from the eat-in area (Skytree)

There’s a bench outside the shop, and when you sit there, you’ll be greeted by the magnificent Skytree right in front of you.
The view is so spectacular, it’s hard not to exclaim, “Wow, that’s amazing!” It’s a luxurious and delightful experience to enjoy freshly baked sweet potatoes while taking in the view.

Enjoying baked sweet potatoes while admiring the Skytree from below.
Splitting the sweet potato in half, the gentle, sweet aroma of the sweet potato whets the appetite. The skin is crisp, and the aroma of charcoal grilling fills the mouth. The high-moisture potato inside is smooth, like sweet potato paste or cream. It’s so sweet it’s hard to believe it’s sugar-free, and it tastes like a delicious sweet potato. The richness of the flavor completely overturns my image of baked sweet potatoes, and I was blown away.
The pot-baked sweet potatoes, carefully baked one by one while keeping an eye on the state of the sweet potato, have a luxurious flavor that makes you feel happy, just like a dessert.
Because they’re sugar-free, they’re truly a guilt-free treat. Try these rich, luxurious sweet potatoes, a little different from any other baked sweet potato you’ve tried.
