Exotic restaurant offering authentic Malaysian cuisine! It is located in a hotel that is the first hotel in Japan to be halal friendly.
Paprika is a restaurant that opened in September 2019, located inside the “Hotel Paprika desu” in Kanedahigashi, Kisarazu. They specializes in authentic Malaysian cuisine.
The staff are from a variety of countries and will welcome you warmly, you will feel as if you are in a different country. Malaysia is known as a multi-cultural nation, where different ethic groups are co-exiting in the society such as Malays, Chinese, and Indians. This makes Malaysia very unique and each region has its own culture. The owner Iizuka san says “We blend spices to create the right balance so that people from different regions can equally enjoy the dishes including Japanese.” The chefs arrange the dishes with the spices for each day, offering the very best dishes every day. There are terrace seats available on sunny days.
Impressive authentic Malaysian cuisine
I had 2 types of dishes this time.
Firstly, “the Boss’s lunch” is very special. You might be familiar with “Weekly special” or “ Special of day”, but here at Paprika they customize the lunch each time customers ask, you can choose rice or noodles. I had a meal set that came with Malaysian nasi goreng, spicy fried chicken, papad, sambal, and salad, which was quite satisfying both in volume and the look. Nasi goreng was cooked with fresh seafood such as shrimps and squids, and lots of vegetables, blending very well with a fried egg on top and I couldn’t stop eating it. If you love spicy food, you can add sambal sauce, which makes the food taste even more authentic. The fried chicken also had lots of flavors from spices and was quite delicious. The fresh salad and papad made a great match with nasi goreng and I enjoyed the meal very much.
Secondly, I had “Curry me Paprika style.” This is a noodle dish with 2 types of noodles, “yellow me” and “thin rice noodle.” You will feel the different texture of each noodle mixed in the delicious soup, making it a very unique dish. This fragrant soup is cooked with original spices and lots of seafood, and coconut milk. You can instantly tell that this noodle is delicious just by smelling it. After a sip or two, the flavors of lemon grass and kaffir lime spread into your mouth and you will love this authentic dish.
Rare desserts that you can’t find anywhere
Paprika’s “three-layered tea” is a very special tea that you won’t find anywhere else in Japan. Have you heard of pandan leaves? It may not be common in Japan but it is very common in Malaysia. It has an exotic smell which is similar to vanilla beans. The bottom layer is syrup made from coconut sugar and pandan leaves, the middle layer is milk, and the top layer is Malaysian black tea, which are meant to be mixed before drinking it. Coconut sugar has lots of minerals and is a better choice compared to the processed white sugar for those who are dieting or needs to manage the blood sugar level.
Lastly I enjoyed the dessert called “Mo mo cha cha”, which can be found at supermarkets. It is called “Bubur cha cha” in Malaysia, which I didn’t know about. Unlike the ones sold at supermarkets, this authentic Bubur cha cha has chunky pieces of corn, sweet potatoes, and tapioca with coconut milk flavored with pandan leaves. I had this combination of corn, sweet potatoes and coconut milk for the first time and it was delicious as coconut milk brings out the sweetness of the corn and sweet potatoes. This is a warm dessert like Japanese zenzai, which makes you feel relaxed. Enjoy the peaceful experience!
