The owner from Taiwan teaches the wonders of vegan food at Shochiku-en Cafe
Shochiku-en Cafe is located in a four-minute walk from Asakusa Station on the Tsukuba Express, near Kappabashi-dori. It is a cute looking vegan café with a nice emerald green signboard. The owner, who is from Taiwan, opened the cafe in December 2019 with the intention of “conveying the beauty of natural and vegan food to Japanese people.”
The owner’s dedication is reflected in the dishes, desserts, and drinks, and the menu is full of dishes that are both healthy and delicious. The restaurant is also vegan certified by the NPO Veggie Project Japan, which shows how serious they are about being vegan.
The interior is a relaxing white and green space where you can relax and chat with other customers.
Vegan food to fill your stomach and your heart
The owner saids, “In order for more people to enjoy vegan food, we want to eliminate the image that vegan food is expensive or lacking in volume.”
All meals are less than 1,000 yen, and the portions are generous. All of the menu items do not use garlic and are suitable for Oriental vegans as well.
The most popular item on the menu is the Taiwanese Minced pork rice. Minced pork rice is a typical local food in Taiwan, and is an extremely popular dish that can be found in any local restaurant. Originally, it is made by stewing pork belly in a sweet and spicy sauce, but at Shochiku-en Cafe, the owner from Taiwan has recreated the taste of hometown without using animal products, so you can enjoy the authentic taste of this vegan dish. The food is juicy and well seasoned. It is a hearty dish that will satisfy even those who are not vegan.
In addition to the Taiwanese Minced pork rice, other international dishes such as veggie sweet and sour pork, mapo tofu rice bowl, and gopao rice are also available. All of them are free of animal products, they are not heavy despite their volume.
Pretty appearance! Specially selected desserts and drinks
They also have a full dessert and drink menu, making it the perfect place for a coffee break. Cakes, smoothies, coffee, and other specialties are on the menu.
The rainbow cake has a great visual impact. The rainbow cakes are very impressive to look at, and the fact that they are made without animal products, coloring agents, additives, or white sugar is amazing. Instead, they use all natural fruits and other ingredients to produce the beautiful colors. Only a limited number of rainbow cakes are available every day!
Smoothies made with huge amounts of fruits and vegetables are also popular. The avocado smoothie is made with a whole avocado.
I ordered the hot chocolate drink. The soy milk cream is fluffy and soothing to the eyes.
Seasonal menus such as Halloween and Christmas are also introduced on instagram and Facebook.
You can also check out the seasonal menu on Instagram and Facebook before you visit, so that you can enjoy Shochiku-en Cafe even more!
Everything on the menu list is available for take-out, so you might as well take out a drink or dessert and enjoy a walk around in Asakusa.
In addition to homemade sweets, the store also sells vegan foods such as seasonings, beverages, and instant-foods that have been carefully selected by the owner.
Be sure to check it out after your meal.
If you are not vegan, your image of veganism will surely be better at Shochiku-en Cafe.
Please enjoy the owner’s special dishes, desserts, and drinks in a homey atmosphere.
All dishes, desserts, and drinks are available for takeout(to-go).
