Natural cafe in a renovated old house
A seven-minute walk from JR Katsukawa Station, Taiyou Human Connection Natural Cafe/Shop/Space celebrated its sixth anniversary in October 2020.
It is operated in a renovated 80-year-old house that used to be a futon shop located on a street off the shopping area.
With the motto of “a table where everyone can gather with a smile on their face,” the owner, Mizuno-san, wants to value the connections between people, and this natural cafe has become a place where many people gather to relax and chat.
Lunch menu starts from 12:00 p.m.
But in the mornings, various workshops such as yoga, wild plants and Japanese herbs, tarot readings, etc. are held on an irregular basis, and exhibitions and sales are also held in a separate gallery.
On the day I visited the store, there was an exhibition and sale of native spirit art.
Maximizing the use of carefully selected ingredients and seasonings
In order to provide safe and most secure food as possible, they use pesticide-free, chemical-free, and organic ingredients whenever possible. They also use naturally brewed seasonings.
Yoshitoki-san, the chef, brings out the best of these ingredients.
Yoshitoki-san met the owner, Mizuno-san, through a mutual friend who is a vegetarian.
The menu for the day was the “Various Tempura Lunch.” Normally, this lunch includes fish, eggs, and other animal products, but with advance notice, the restaurant is able to accommodate vegetarians.
The motto of the restaurant is “a table where everyone can gather with a smile on their face,” and with prior consultation, they can accommodate allergies as much as possible.
And here is the lunch I had today.
The seasonal dishes served on one plate were beautiful and bright to the eyes, and on the day I visited in November, the plate was decorated with autumn flavors.
It consisted of seasonal tempura, homemade black sesame yose-tofu, and about six kinds of side dishes. It is served with mukago brown rice with miso soup.
The mukago brown rice was delightful with the crunchy texture of the mukago and the chewy texture of the brown rice.
Also, edible chrysanthemums add a touch of color to the Chinese cabbage salad.
The seasonal tempura includes some ingredients that might seem novel to be used as tempura. The thickly sliced green eggplant tempura was juicy and the persimmon tempura has a nice sweetness and crunchiness, and was surprisingly delicious.
As for the side dishes, the potato salad is made with smoked oil, and the dried daikon radish is spiced with curry and cumin, which are very innovative and original. If you use these recipes as a reference for dinner, you will be able to improve your home cooking.
All sweets are vegan-friendly and gluten-free.
For sweets, they have several kinds of raw sweets from “makinoko-yoga-rawsweets.” On this day, I had the seasonal persimmon cheesecake. (It has cheese in the name, but it is dairy-free.)
The raw sweets you can enjoy here is excellent! There are many fans who come to the store just for the raw sweets. After lunch, I highly recommend you try their raw sweets.
They also sell raw parfaits on a random basis, and sometimes have yoga and raw sweet events, so I recommend checking their SNS pages such as Facebook, Instagram, and websites. All raw sweets here are egg, milk, wheat, and soy free.
There are also sweets available for take-out. One is the TORCH rice flour muffin. When I tried this before, it was a firm, chewy muffin with a gentle sweetness.
They can also be frozen, and after freezing, you can steam them to keep its fluffy texture.
The other item was the rice flour baked sweets from “Momo.” They have a variety of cookies with a mature flavor with spices. I have tried baked sweets several times before, and they were all really delicious.
On this particular day, I took home a coconut and sea salt cookie. The saltiness, the coconut flavor, and the crunchy texture were just right!
Everyone can eat with peace, barrier-free mind.
Because Mizuno-san’s personality is very friendly, Taiyou Human Connection Natural Cafe has become a place where people from all walks of life, from mothers with small children to the elderly, gather to exchange opinions. It is a warm place where anyone can gather with comfortable space and delicious food.
