I am currently working as an editor. However, I experienced working as a cook in restrunts, hospitals, and catering industry. Looking back now, I was connected to the Idea of Hala, since then.
At one point, few decades ago, I worked in a cafeteria at an auction site. More than 60% of the visitors to the venue were foreigners, including many Muslims (There were mosque in the venue as well). I remember many people asked me about the food we serve, the types of meat and whether they are Hala qualified.
At a certain time, the cafeteria becomes lively like a festival. Because the Indian restaurant next door to the venue served food for free. Indian dish, such as biryani, curry and sweet drinks were served to the visitors. Over 100 foreigners dressed in red turbans, garabayas and folk costumes gathered in the cafeteria, and everyone had a great time surrounding the same table. Now I learned about Muslim culture, it was a fast-starting Iftar.
Also, I remember that many participants were only eating curry from the Indian restrunt, eventhough there were choices of other food. As I study about Halal, I learned that they did not chose to eat curry, but they did not have a choise. I personally think that they wanted to try some of the Japanese food, if they had a chose. I still regret that moment, when I could not do anything because of the lack of information. “Inconvenience” of food is quite different based on their cultural background, and therefore, I understand now, that it is crucial to create an environment where all people can enjoy delicious meal, regardless of their backgrounds.
In Japan, Halal food is still a minority. Many people from Muslim background visit Japan, but they fell enconvininet about it. Japan Halal Business Association advocates in the halal business: HAVO (Halal, Organic, Vegetarian, Allergy).
The idea is to aim to create products and services that many people can eat and use, regardless of their religion and various backgrounds.
Seeking for delicious, safe and secure meal is commonly shared through the nations. The time demand us to find new ways of living that transcend borders and religions. We hope that Halal will help eliminate food inconvenience and contribute to the harmony of the world where you can respect, coexist, and co-prosper with a more liberal idea to eating and enjoying food.
A long-established store with 34 years of history. Complete Halal Pakistani restaurant where Muslim chefs puts all their skills
MARHABA is a Pakistani restaurant located in Kita-Ikebukuro, with 34 years of history.
You can enjoy spicy curry that reproduces the authentic taste and lamb meat dishes that are rich in variety.
The shop has a tasteful atmosphere like a café. You can also enjoy the Pakistani programs streamed from the TV inside the store.
The lunck set on the weekday menue is a great deal. For beginners, we recommend the lunch B set (900 yen), which consists of two types of curry, Nan (rice), salad, drink, and tandoori chicken.
You can choose from 5 types of curry: chicken, mutton, beans, vegetables, and daily.
Vegetable curry is mild, but mutton curry is spicy from the defult state. If you are not good at spicy food, be sure asking for milding the curry, when ordering.
Since the curry is served in a small dish, the volume looks small, but it is quite satisfying for the stomach.
This is a lunch Biryani E set (750 yen).
You can choose from three types: chicken, mutton, and vegetables.Biryani made with 100% Pakistani basmati rice. It has a moist texture and the seasoning is simple and very tasty.
Meat and vegetables are hidden under a large amount of rice. There is also a large volume here, so it may be good to share with friends/families.
Tryy to conquer spicy curry and biryani with a sweet Pakistani drinks.
Brain Masala with sheep’s brain is famous. Tabelog 3.5 or higher score! No alcohol menu!
MARHABA PAKISTAN RESTAURANT has more than 70 kinds of menus including curry, desserts such as biryani, tandoori chicken, and samosa.
Above all, “Brain Masala,” a dish using the sheep’s brain, made the shop famous for its rarity.
The impact of the name is great, and the taste is mellow like milt or liver. There are many fans and people from the local areas of Japan, visit the restrunt to eat this menue.
Spicy curry using a pot called Karahi is also one of the typical menus here.
There are also many other grilled items such as “Shish kebab,” ground mutton meat on skewers, “Shamic Kebab,” ground mutton meat and chickpeas hamburger, and “Shishtalk,” an Arab-style skewered meat made with yogurt and lemon.
MARHABA does not offer any alcohol. This is a completely halal restaurant with a strong policy, so even religious Muslims can eat with confidence.
Also, the rating for Japanese cite “Tabelog” is quite high. This is because the main-chef is from a well-known restaurant and his consistent restaurant policy is reflect the level of cooking.

5 minutes walk from Marhaba! Do not miss the Halal food Alfara supermarket
Halal restaurants often runs halal food shops.
MARHABA runs halal food shops in Tokyo as well. There is a supermarket called AL-FLAH SUPER MARKET, that sells Halal imported foods. It is a 5-minute walk from the shop. This supermarket is located on the 4th floor of the building. Its sssortment and number of items are astonishingly entertaining that you cannot imagine from the exterior.
Halal foods are sold around the world. You can often see them in Pakistan, India, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Indonesia, the United States, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon.
There are many intresting and unusual foods, fun to watch them for hours. This is Chicken Karahi from Pakistan, pickled with Thai Jackfruit syrup.
Retort foods are marked with a halal and gluten-free mark, as well as a level of hotness. This is important because Pakistani food is very hot and spicy.
The meat also ranges from domestic beef to Australian goats and sheeps. There are many types of offal/tripe such as Hachinos and livers.
I think that Indian and Nepalese foods are relatively easy to find in Tokyo, but Pakistani processed foods and Turkish and Middle Eastern foods are hard to find, so it is worth visiting. Please come back to Marhaba.
